ca_roots_2017_second_announce_peak_slider_1920x730Surprise and thrill don’t convey the proper level of OMG you’re going to feel when you feast your eyes upon the second announcement of artists for the eighth annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival next May in Monterey, CA. This lineup release boasts the legendary Nas, arguably one of the most influential artists in hip hop and father of the Illmatic dynasty. Can you say freshie?

Familiar faces like SOJA and Iration will be joining us again, the former dropping their new acoustic album Double Up on December 2nd. Santa Cruz locals and Cali Roots veterans Stick Figure will also grace us with their presence and who am I kidding? Everyone is as excited to see Cocoa the Tour Dog as we are to see Scott and the guys.

Expect a slew of international as well as domestic newcomers to get you out of your musical rut as well. Six60 from New Zealand has a fresh take on drum and bass and Jah9, whose 2016 album 9 was dubbed by United Reggae as “the most anticipated reggae album of 2016”, weaves words of consciousness and social justice into her beautifully crafted, poetic songs. RDGLDGRN (pronounced red gold green) from Virginia is a group with a lot of buzz surrounding them; Dave Grohl played drums on their entire album and the trio has been compared to Vampire Weekend with hip hop breakdowns.

With the ever-evolving musical offerings at California Roots, it’s easy to see why it has become everyone’s favorite festival so quickly. We will gladly welcome all the hip hop, indie rock, island reggae and anything else that sounds good with arms wide open. Don’t miss the third and final announcements of artists on January 10th!

Early advance general admission tickets and a limited number of “Redwood Passes” go on sale December 7th at 7:00 pm PST and can be purchased here. Please visit the Cali Roots and Bulldog Media FaceBook pages for more information.
